Painting a Picture of TOGETHER!
In October 2009, TOGETHER! celebrated its 20th anniversary by "Painting a Picture of TOGETHER!" for the community with a big event. We told the story of who we are and what we do.
This fundraising event included appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks, a silent auction, a balloon pop, and a program highlighting the many activities and partners of TOGETHER!. Staff member Jesse Youckton shared his story of success, painting a picture of his youth group involvement and volunteerism for TOGETHER! up through his employment and national recognitions.

History celebrated at the event
How was TOGETHER! born?
In May 1989, community leaders in Thurston County met with social development researchers from the University of Washington to discuss the growing presence of substance abuse problems in our neighborhoods and schools. They embraced the Communities That Care® research-based model for developing a comprehensive, communitywide plan to combat the problem. This meeting gave birth to TOGETHER!
The founding Board President was John Clees, a local CPA. Earlyse Swift was hired as the first Executive Director and served through January 2003. Fifty-six key community leaders collaborated in program development, all dedicated to the vision of safe and drug-free communities for our youth.
